Mom, Nana and Musician’s wife!
I love characters. In most of my stories, I spend a great deal of time with my characters—behind the scenes. The TV shows I watch and books I read, I do so because they have great characters.
I enjoy reading cozy mystery because it’s nice to curl up with a good story, some strange characters and just relax. However, I struggle to write those cutesy ones. My stories often lean towards the darker side of people, but I’m determined to hit the cutesy factor at some point in a series of books.
I also believe in love and wish that all relationships could end in happily ever after. Maybe that doesn’t happen in real life, but in a good romance story–it can. That’s why I enjoy romantic suspense. I get to create some twisted characters and get an HEA with a touch of love for the protagonists.
For all of these reasons, I do write in several genres and I do not use a different pen name for each genre. It’s hard enough keeping up with me and my characters. Trying to keep up with and run a business with more than one pen name would just boggle my brain and I’d probably never get any writing done.
Why I Write What I Write:
I write the cozies because they are just fun. They can be a little mind boggling too, but it’s fun.
I write suspense because the dark depths of the human mind fascinates me. However, I do not write suspense and thrillers often. I go deep into character development when I write those and to be honest, it’s hard to stay in those dark places for very long.
I write romance because—because I love, Love! Since discovering medieval (and/or) historical romance, I get to combine two loves into one. I love a good HEA and I love the time periods of the middle (dark) ages. Writing these is like a guilty pleasure, plus I get to step away from the modern world, technology, etc. Yes, I write on a Mac, so I’m still using modern day means to write, but in my mind I get to time travel.
Personal Life: I’m married to a musician, so music is a huge part of our lives. If I’m not writing, I’m off doing music stuff with him. It works out well for both of us. Continue reading “About KP”
