Ah, love is in the air! Romance is one of my favorite genres and the one I feel most comfortable working in. I’m still finding my voice in other genres, like mystery and suspense, but romance is like being at home.

Current Work in Progress:

*working cover and blurb – subject to change

Candace Williams has had a tough life. Her father left when she was sixteen. She doesn’t trust men, doesn’t want to depend on one and she sure doesn’t want to get involved with one. After inheriting a resort, she sells everything she owns, packs her bags and heads off to her new life. She can’t go back. This is her time to make it or give up a career in hospitality.

Cooper Flannigan is one of the world’s most eligible bachelors. Son of hotel mogul Stewart Flannigan, many women want to get their claws into his bank account. His parent’s relationship has been cold all his life so he wants no part of a serious relationship. Can he overcome living in the shadow of his overbearing father and make a go of it on his own?

Fate puts Cooper and Candace together when an old family friend leaves them a resort to run together. Candace sees this as her chance for a new beginning. Cooper’s father sees it as another acquisition in his own empire. Can they overcome all their insecurities and make this work? Will they give into the attraction they both feel and finally allow love into their lives?

About KP

My life:

kp-staffordMom, Nana and Musician’s wife!

I love characters. In most of my stories, I spend a great deal of time with my characters—behind the scenes. The TV shows I watch and books I read, I do so because they have great characters.

I enjoy reading cozy mystery because it’s nice to curl up with a good story, some strange characters and just relax. However, I struggle to write those cutesy ones. My stories often lean towards the darker side of people, but I’m determined to hit the cutesy factor at some point in a series of books.

I also believe in love and wish that all relationships could end in happily ever after. Maybe that doesn’t happen in real life, but in a good romance story–it can. That’s why I enjoy romantic suspense. I get to create some twisted characters and get an HEA with a touch of love for the protagonists.

For all of these reasons, I do write in several genres and I do not use a different pen name for each genre. It’s hard enough keeping up with me and my characters. Trying to keep up with and run a business with more than one pen name would just boggle my brain and I’d probably never get any writing done.

Why I Write What I Write:

I write the cozies because they are just fun. They can be a little mind boggling too, but it’s fun.

I write suspense because the dark depths of the human mind fascinates me. However, I do not write suspense and thrillers often. I go deep into character development when I write those and to be honest, it’s hard to stay in those dark places for very long.

I write romance because—because I love, Love! Since discovering medieval (and/or) historical romance, I get to combine two loves into one. I love a good HEA and I love the time periods of the middle (dark) ages. Writing these is like a guilty pleasure, plus I get to step away from the modern world, technology, etc. Yes, I write on a Mac, so I’m still using modern day means to write, but in my mind I get to time travel.

Personal Life: I’m married to a musician, so music is a huge part of our lives. If I’m not writing, I’m off doing music stuff with him. It works out well for both of us. Continue reading “About KP”
